Getting Started

What does ha!shh do?

It holds incoming notifications according to your rules and delivers them back in batches at the times you choose. To decide, the notification text is never read; only which app it came from and when it arrived are used. The app has no internet permission, so everything stays on your phone.

How do I do the initial setup?

When you first open the app, the Initial Setup Wizard begins. You read the privacy info, grant notification access and battery permissions, and then choose the daily routine that fits you (Student, Office Worker, Night Shift, Freelance / Flexible). If you leave the wizard unfinished, you can resume it from the card in Flow or via Settings → Tools → Initial Setup Wizard.

Which permissions are required?

Two things are required: notification access (essential for holding notifications) and battery and background permission (to ensure delivery times aren't missed). You can see both under Settings → Device permissions; next to them it will say "Permission granted" or "Permission required".

Daily Use

What is on the Flow screen?

In the center is the dial of the day: 12 at the top, 18 on the right, 00 at the bottom, 06 on the left. The app icons of pending notifications appear on the dial. At the bottom, you will find the Pending card, the next delivery time, the archive card, and the Time saved summary.

How do I see pending notifications?

In Flow, tap the Read all › link on the Pending card. If you want, tap Deliver all now to get all of them back immediately. Tapping a notification opens the app it came from.

Can I read notification content inside the app?

Yes, but only if you allow it. Turn on the switch at Settings → Content and calm → Show notification content. When it's off, only the app name, time, and hold reason are shown.

How is time saved calculated?

By default, 1 minute is counted for every notification held without interrupting you. You can adjust this duration between 0.5 and 5 minutes via Settings → Content and calm → Time per interruption. To disable the summary, turn off the Time saved summary switch in the same section.

Rules

How do I set up a rule for an app?

Tap the app in the Rules tab. Four options appear: Immediate, Hold, At delivery time, Block. The behavior you choose applies to all notifications from that app.

I want an app to never be held

In Rules, tap the app, choose Immediate, and tap the Never hold (deliver in all modes) option that appears below. This way, notifications from that app will arrive immediately regardless of which mode is active.

I only want to see messages in apps like Instagram (type filter)

In Rules, tap the app and open the Type Filter panel with Select type ›. Ready-made filters are available: Messages only, Likes only, Likes + comments, Reset. For each type, you can also select Default, Immediate, At delivery, or Block. Filtering is based on the app's notification category; content is not read.

Can I manage apps as a group?

Yes. In the Rules screen, tap New Group to gather multiple apps into a single group and manage them with one rule. A group can contain up to 100 apps.

Where are the apps I permanently blocked?

Settings → Tools → Blocked. Here you can see blocked apps and the log of notifications received from them (app, time); use Unblock to restore them.

Modes and Schedule

What are modes?

There are four preset modes: Normal, Focus, Sleep, Sports. The hold duration and behavior of each mode are configured separately. You can edit them using Configure › on the mode card under Your Modes in the Schedule tab; you can also add your own mode with + Custom mode.

How long does a manually selected mode last?

If you manually select one of the quick modes, it stays active until you turn it off; the schedule will not change it. When you want to return to the schedule, tap the Return to schedule button.

How do I set up the weekly schedule?

Days of the week and hour blocks appear in the Schedule tab. Tap a day and drag the block edges to adjust hours. Use the + Mode, + Custom for today, and + Delivery time buttons to add new blocks or delivery times.

Adding a mode interval from the dial

Tap the + button next to the dial in Flow. Select an interval on the dial (e.g., 18:00–24:00 Focus, 00:00–06:00 Sleep); hours advance in 15-minute increments. A warning appears if an interval overlaps. You can edit or delete added intervals later.

How do I change delivery times?

In Schedule, tap the Edit delivery times & Daily rhythm › link in the Configure › panel on the mode card. Pending notifications will be delivered in their original form at the next available delivery time.

I work in shifts

There is a Shift schedule in Schedule tools. Enter your cycle and shift hours once; ha!shh automatically calculates which shift you are on for each day. When enabled, Schedule shows "Shift schedule · today …".

How do I view past and upcoming days?

Navigate between months using the Month view in Schedule tools. You can view stats from past days and set up a custom schedule for a future day.

Sports mode and spoiler shield

In Schedule, Configure › on the Sports card opens Sports Settings. Notifications from your selected sports apps are held until the match ends; other apps arrive normally. If Enable spoiler mode is on, selected shield apps will also be held until the match ends. You can also add keywords if you wish (e.g., goal, score); this only matches on-device and only if you have granted content permission.

Archive

What is Archive and where is it?

It keeps notifications you want to save, such as coupons, bills, and receipts, in folders. It can be opened via the 📦 Archive button at the top of the History tab or from the archive card in Flow. The archive stays encrypted and strictly on this phone.

How do I add a notification to the archive?

While reading pending notifications or in History, tap the Archive › link next to a notification and select a folder. You can create your own folder using ➕ Create New Folder....

Automatic archiving (archive rules and groups)

In Archive, ⚙ Rules opens Auto-Archive Rules. With + Add Rule, you can create rules based on app, sender, or keyword; notifications marked as read are sent automatically to the matching folder. ✨ Auto-Suggest recommends rules suited to you.

Coupon wallet

When you switch to the Coupons folder in Archive, the Coupon & Campaign Wallet appears at the top. Active coupon codes are collected here, and reminders are sent as the expiration date approaches.

Browsing by app and searching in Archive

In Archive, use 📱 By app to pick an app and view only its entries (e.g., only your email app). You can search by app name using the search box.

Exporting archive and saving to Drive

Under Export Archive in Archive, three options appear: 🔒 Encrypted Archive (.hashh), which is password-protected and the recommended format, Unencrypted JSON (.json), and Unencrypted CSV (.csv · Excel / Spreadsheet). You can save the generated file anywhere you like, such as Google Drive, via Android's share menu. ha!shh never sends the file anywhere on its own.

Privacy and Security

Fingerprint lock

Settings → Fingerprint lock. There are three options: Off, Only archive and notification content, Entire app (on every launch). The lock can be unlocked using fingerprint, face, or phone PIN/password.

Keeping content in History

With Settings → Content and calm → Keep content in history, you can store notification contents encrypted for 1 or 7 days. They are deleted when the duration expires or if permission is turned off. This setting only works when Show notification content is turned on.

Notification Bar and Shortcuts

What is silent digest?

A single, silent line in the notification bar for held notifications: showing how many notifications from whom, and when the first delivery is. Under Settings → Silent digest, you can select Off, Selected apps…, or All pending notifications. If app icons in notification is enabled, expanding the line shows the icons of pending apps.

Live notifications like orders

If you accidentally dismiss progressing notifications like "order is being prepared", you will see them in History with a "live notification" badge. Tapping the row opens the relevant app.

Quick settings tile

Add a ha!shh tile to your notification panel via Settings → Tools → Quick settings tile. The tile shows the pending count and density; in the same place, you can choose what happens when you tap it (open pending, switch mode, deliver immediately).

Mode by Wi-Fi

Settings → Tools → Mode by Wi-Fi gives step-by-step instructions on switching modes when connecting to a specific Wi-Fi network using your phone's routine app (e.g., Samsung Routines).

Appearance

Changing theme

Under Settings → Appearance, you'll find Paper, Light, Dark, System, as well as Night (Petrol Velvet) and Day (Cream Paper) themes. When the theme changes, you'll be asked if you want the home screen icon to match.

App icon

Choose the color of the home screen icon via Settings → App icon. On some phones (e.g., Samsung), changing the icon removes it from the home screen and returns it to the app drawer; you will need to re-add it from there.

Simple view

When Settings → Content and calm → Simple view is enabled, Flow only displays the dial, a single button, and pending items; the Rules and Schedule tabs are hidden. Your rules continue to work.

Simple UI on low battery

If Settings → Simple UI on low battery is enabled, ha!shh automatically switches to simple view when your phone enters power saving mode.

Invite

How do I invite a friend?

Settings → Invite and earn rewards. You will see your code under Your Invite Code; share it via any app using Invite, or tap Copy Code.

How does my invite count increase?

Your friend installs the app and enters your code into the I Have an Invite Code field. A thank-you code is generated on their phone, which they send to you (Send Thank-You Code). You enter this code into the Enter Thank-You Code field and tap Add. The same person cannot be counted twice.

What are the rewards?

First invite badge at 1 invite, Paper wallpaper at 3, Quiet circle badge at 5, Night wallpaper at 7, ha!shh ambassador badge at 10. A friend who joins through an invite also receives the "Invited guest" badge. Wallpapers unlock under Settings → Appearance → Flow Wallpaper as background for Flow; you can also export them as PNG using Save wallpaper as image.

Backup

How do I back up my rules?

Settings → Backup → Export to file. Your rules, modes, and schedule are saved to a file. There is no cloud backup, and notification contents are not backed up.

How do I restore from a backup?

Select your backup file via Settings → Backup → Import from file. The app shows what is inside; Merge keeps and updates your current rules, while Replace replaces everything with the backup.

Sharing a rule template

You can share your rules with a friend via Settings → Backup → Share rule template. It does not contain any notification content.

Other

Sending feedback

Settings → Send feedback opens your email app with a pre-composed message. Your notification contents and rules are not included; you can review and edit the email before sending.

Promo code

Activate your Google Play promo code through the Play Store via Settings → Tools → Redeem promo code.

Common problems

Holding and Delivery

Notifications are not being held, they arrive immediately

The most common reason is that notification access was turned off. If the row at Settings → Device permissions → Manage notification access says "Permission required", tap it and turn on ha!shh. Also, Immediate or Never hold may be selected for that app; check by tapping the app in the Rules tab. Calls, alarms, and system notifications are never held for safety.

Notifications did not arrive at delivery time

Usually, your phone's battery saver stopped ha!shh in the background. Tap the Settings → Device permissions → Battery and background row; use Turn Off Battery Optimization and, if your brand is detected, Open Device Settings buttons. The System health row shows connection status; if it says "Disconnected", tap Reconnect from there.

Deliveries are delayed on Samsung

In your phone settings, go to Battery → Background usage limits and add ha!shh to the Never sleeping apps list. If it's in the Sleeping apps list, remove it. The Open Device Settings button inside ha!shh takes you straight to the Samsung battery screen.

Deliveries are delayed on Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO

In your phone settings, go to Apps → ha!shh, turn on Autostart, and set Battery saver to No restrictions. Locking ha!shh in the recent apps screen also helps. The Open Device Settings button in ha!shh opens the relevant Xiaomi screen.

Deliveries are delayed on Huawei or Honor

In your phone settings, go to Battery → App launch, turn off automatic management for ha!shh, and enable Autostart, Secondary launch, and Run in background. The Open Device Settings button in ha!shh attempts to open this screen.

Deliveries are delayed on Oppo, Realme, OnePlus, or Vivo

In your phone settings, enable Autostart and Allow background activity for ha!shh, and turn off battery optimization. The Open Device Settings button in ha!shh attempts to open your brand's relevant screen.

I restarted my phone, what happened to pending notifications?

ha!shh automatically checks and restores pending records after a restart. If any notification cannot be restored, a "Check overdue notifications" alert appears; simply open the relevant apps to check them.

Did my manually selected mode change on its own?

A manually selected mode stays active until you turn it off; the schedule will not change it. To return to the schedule, use the Return to schedule button.

Apps and Rules

An app does not appear in the list

Try typing the app's name into the search box. If the app is not installed on your phone or has never sent a notification, it might not be in the list; check again after its first notification. The app may also be inside a category: you can tap a category in Rules to see its apps.

No types appear in the type filter

Types are learned as the app sends you notifications of that type. Wait until you receive a few notifications first, then check again via Rules → app → Select type ›. Filtering is based on the app's notification category; content is not read.

I permanently blocked an app, I want to undo it

In Settings → Tools → Blocked, switch to the Blocked Apps tab and tap Unblock.

Privacy and Lock

Fingerprint lock option does not appear or does not work

For the lock to work, a screen lock (fingerprint, PIN, or pattern) must be set on the phone, and Android 9 or above is required. After setting up a screen lock in your phone settings, try again via Settings → Fingerprint lock.

Notification content is not visible

Content is not shown by default. Turn on the switch at Settings → Content and calm → Show notification content. If you want to read it in History, also select 1 or 7 days under Keep content in history.

Screenshot of the History screen comes out black

This is not a bug, but privacy protection. Screenshots are blocked on screens that can display notification content (History, archive, reading screen) and when the lock is active; this prevents contents from leaking to other apps.

Why does ha!shh not request internet permission?

The app was deliberately built without internet permission. Your notifications, rules, and archive are never sent from your phone to any server. If you want to export a file (backup or archive), you do so manually via the share menu.

Archive

Where is Archive?

Tap the 📦 Archive button at the top of the History tab. You can also open it from the archive card in Flow.

I want to save the archive to Google Drive

Tap Export Archive in Archive and choose a format; the most secure is 🔒 Encrypted Archive (.hashh). Select Drive from the share menu that pops up. The archive is never backed up or sent to the internet automatically; it only exports to a file when you do so.

I cannot add an app to a new archive folder

In Archive, you can add or remove apps from a folder via ⚙ Edit Apps.

Coupons do not appear in Archive

Coupons are collected from notifications archived into the Coupons folder. Add a notification to Coupons using Archive ›, or create an auto-archive rule for your shopping apps via ⚙ Rules → + Add Rule.

Live Notifications

I accidentally dismissed an order notification

In the History tab, that notification appears with a "live notification" badge. Tapping the row opens the app where the order was placed so you can see its current status.

Tapping a notification returns to the home screen

Notifications in the pending list and History open the app they originated from when tapped.

Invite

Invite code was not accepted

You can enter the code with or without hyphens; it is not case-sensitive. You cannot enter your own code, and an invite code can only be used once. If the code is still rejected, a character might be mistyped; ha!shh catches single-character typos, so ask your friend to copy and resend the code.

Thank-you code says "This code does not belong to you or is invalid"

A thank-you code is generated specifically based on the code of the person who invited you; someone else's thank-you code will not be added to your count. Ask your friend to send the code again using Resend My Thank-You Code. If it says "This invite has already been counted", that person is already included in your count.

Backup and Switching Phones

How do I restore from a backup?

Select your backup file via Settings → Backup → Import from file. Merge keeps and updates your current rules, while Replace replaces everything with the backup. If the file is corrupted or too large (over 512 KB), the app will warn you.

I am switching phones, what will happen to my settings?

On your old phone, take a backup via Settings → Backup → Export to file and transfer the file to the new phone (e.g., via Drive or cable). On your new phone, install ha!shh and restore it using Import from file. To transfer the archive as well, use Export Archive → 🔒 Encrypted Archive (.hashh) on the old phone. You will need to grant notification access and battery permissions again on the new phone.

I want to delete all my data

Settings → Backup → Delete all local data. Rules, history, pending records, and preferences will be deleted; this action cannot be undone. If you want to back up first, use Export to file.

Other

I changed the app icon and it disappeared from the home screen

On some phones (e.g., Samsung), changing the icon removes it from the home screen and returns it to the app drawer. Simply drag ha!shh back onto your home screen from the app drawer.

I cannot find the quick settings tile

Pull down your notification panel twice. If the tile is not visible, swipe the panel to the right; it might be on the next page. If not, add it again via Settings → Tools → Quick settings tile.

I want to report an issue

Settings → Send feedback opens your email app with a pre-composed message. Your notification contents and rules are not included.
